Pygmalion and Galatea

Pygmalion was an expert sculptor in ancient Greece. He spent most of his day at home sculpting beautiful things and didn’t give a second thought to women. He believed they would never good be enough for him.
One day however, he began sculpting his idea of the “perfect woman.” Once he was done, it looked immensely beautiful and he fell in love with it. He put clothes on it, gave it jewelry and named it Galatea. He was completely entranced with his statue.
One day he went to a festal for the goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite. He went to one of her temples and prayed for a wife that was like Galatea, but a living one… Obviously.
Aphrodite was curious. Before Pygmalion returned home, she came to his house and was amazed when she saw Galatea. She couldn’t help but think that the statue looked a lot like her. So, instead of getting Pygmalion a woman likeGalatea, she brought Galatea to life.
Pygmalion came home and saw Galatea as a living, breathing human being. He was overwhelmed with joy, and it wasn’t long before they were married. They had two children, a son named Paphos and a daughter named Metharme.
