Sisyphus

On of the more interesting of Greek myths in my opinion is the one pertaining to Sisyphus.
When it was his time to die, the personification of death, Thanatos, came for him. However, Sisyphus used his cunning and ended up chaining Thanatos, causeing all death to halt. Obviously this didn’t please Ares, the god of war and bloodshed too much and released Thanatos. Once freed, he promptly caused Sisyphus’ death.

However, before he died, Sisyphus ordered his wife not to bury him, which was a VERY bad thing back in ancient Greece. He talked Persephone into letting him back into the world of the living so he could yell at his wife. Of course he didn’t do this and instead he just stayed in the living world until he lived to an old age.

You can never truely cheat death in the end, so when Sisyphus died again he was condemed to Tartarus and sentenced to forever roll a boulder up a hill.
